Position Summary

A two year post-doctoral research position is available in the laboratory of E. Fiona Bailey, PhD. in the Department of Physiology at The University of Arizona, College of Medicine. Research and training will focus on human models of the potential for respiratory training to modulate the cardiovascular system and correct autonomic dysfunction. Particular attention will be paid to respiratory – cardiovascular interactions in health and disease.

The fellowship is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for one year in the first instance, and is renewable dependent on the candidate’s progress.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Report directly to the PI.
  • Responsible for preliminary screening, recruitment, assessment and implementing training of adults diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and hypertension.
  • Work with medical clinics and centers to recruit subjects, to perform experimental protocols, to maintain subject records, and to ensure compliance with IRB protocols.
  • Supervision of graduate and undergraduate students is required.
  • Collect and analyze data and report findings for presentation at national meetings and for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in neuroscience, physiology, biomedical or engineering related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in human subject research and IRB protocols.
  • Background in digital signal processing and computational skills.
  • Understanding of motor systems physiology and/or electrophysiology.
  • Experience in statistical analyses.
  • Ability to work independently.
