Position Summary

The Pediatrics Department at the University of Arizona seeks candidates for a metabolic genetic physician with interest in basic science in the division of Medical and Molecular Genetics. This position is open to physician/scientists with a track record in basic science research and an international reputation in research scholarship and education in the broadly defined field of genetics of metabolic or immune disorders with a focus on genetics, mechanisms, models and/or therapy. Research is conducted through the Steele Children’s Research Center—one of fourteen centers of excellence at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. In this state-of-the-art facility, internationally known scientists and physicians research the causes of and develop cures for childhood illnesses and diseases.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain and continue to develop an extramural funded research program.
  • Participate in the activities of the Steele Children’s Research Center.
  • Collaborate with faculty who have extensive extramural funded activities in basic and translational research, including participation of graduate students with the Neurosciences, Physiological Sciences or related PhD programs.
  • Help promote professional development among existing faculty.
  • Establish a metabolic genetic clinic in association with Children’s Rehabilitative Services and provide consults for metabolic disorders at Banner Children’s — Diamond Children’s Medical Center.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or MD/PhD or PhD.
  • A sustained record of peer reviewed publications and research funding.
  • Evidence of academic productivity with strong publication record.
  • Have AZ medical license by hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership of a successful and relevant research program.
  • National and preferably international recognition in the field of genetics, immunogenetics or closely related discipline.
  • Established expertise working with diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to work with diverse students and colleagues, and experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.
