Position Summary

The Media Services Manager plans and organizes audiovisual and media services provided to the UAHS community. This involves organizing the operation and maintenance of facilities requiring audio-visual services. The successful candidate selected will also design technical and specialized audiovisual systems in response to faculty, student and staff requirements. Incumbents in this classification supervise technical staff in the setup, operation and maintenance of equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage the activities of and supervise staff; hire, train, set goals, and evaluate performance. Develop procedures and guidelines for day-to-day operations, and for new services. Define and interpret procedural guidelines in practice. Schedule and assign tasks to staff members. As necessary, perform any and all duties normally accomplished by supervised technical staff.
  • Assure availability of resources for instructional needs by monitoring and adjusting inventory. Specify equipment and software appropriate to objectives. Arrange for procurement, and schedule utilization and maintenance of inventory, including installed and circulating equipment. Determine repair and replacement or upgrade needs for circulating and installed equipment.
  • Forecast labor and equipment needs and submit to the Director for budgeting; monitor and maintain section budget; maintain and update data for reports submitted to the Director and for analysis of operations; submit regular reports of section activities.
  • Provide leadership in technical media implementation through current knowledge of innovative and traditional audiovisual equipment, including processor based control, smart device applications, and trends in hardware and software based collaborative learning tools. Provide consultation services to architects, contractors, faculty and staff, as related to media for instruction and facility systems installation and integration.
  • Design, specify, requisition, inventory and install audiovisual systems for specific applications in response to faculty, student and staff requirements. Resolve and refine users’ objectives for audiovisual media; design systems to accomplish objectives.
  • Identify, specify and requisition supplies, materials and equipment for complex systems of signal processing; write programming specific to control systems.
  • Coordinate and monitor work of vendors and other operational units involved in the installation of audiovisual systems in the facility; test and troubleshoot.
  • Educate users in the operation of audiovisual systems.
  • Provide technical expertise to contractors, media staff and faculty regarding equipment purchases and installation.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Demonstrate understanding of audiovisual system drawings and ability to troubleshoot problems using them.
  • Knowledge of media presentation tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of personal computer operating systems as it relates to audio-visual presentation systems.
  • Skill in media event planning and organization.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Instructional/Technology, Communications or related field AND two years of audiovisual support experience which includes one year of supervisory experience; OR, six years of media experience, which includes one year of supervisory experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Maintains AVIXA (Infocomm/ICIA) credentials for CTS or above.
  • Attained basic or advanced manufacturer’s certifications from Crestron, AMX, Extron, Biamp, QSC, and/or others.
  • Experience with University system purchasing procedures.
  • Experience working in a fee-for-service environment.
