The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) at the University of Arizona (UA) invites applicants for a senior level faculty position in women’s health in the Department of Health Promotion Sciences. The University of Arizona’s Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). It is a rapidly growing and dynamic college and a member of the Association of Schools and programs of Public Health (ASPPH). We are dedicated to promoting the health of communities in the Southwest and globally with an emphasis on achieving health equity through excellence in education, research, and service. The College has active teaching, research and service programs and is the home of several important centers including the Canyon Ranch Center for Prevention and Health Promotion, the CDC funded Arizona Prevention Research Center, the Western Regional Public Health Training Center, the Center for Rural Health, the Global Health Institute, among several others. The College is also a vital partner in multi-college (Medicine, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Nursing) and trans-disciplinary centers that include the Arizona Cancer Center, Arizona Respiratory Center, the UA Center for the Elimination of Border Health Disparities, among others.

Health Promotion Sciences engages the community to translate science into practice to inspire and change the world. The mission of the Department of Health Promotion Sciences is to collaborate with communities in the southwestern United States in developing innovative responses to health challenges, and translating best practices globally. In addition to an undergraduate public health degree program and the MPH, the Department offers two doctoral degree programs, a DrPH in Family and Child Health, and a PhD in Health behavior and Health Promotion. The Department has a diverse group of faculty members who engage in teaching, service and research in the many different areas of health promotion and disease prevention. We are seeking a well-established independent investigator whose interests complement those of our Department. Candidates with interests and research portfolios in critical public health issues that impact the health of women domestically or globally will be considered. The faculty member for this position will be expected to work collaboratively with other university departments, state, tribal, and local health departments and health agencies, and national/international women’s health organizations. Skill and content expertise areas in women’s health are open and can be domestic or global.

Competitive applicants must demonstrate academic credentials appropriate for the rank of associate/full professor (tenured or tenure earning), including a record of extramural funding and publications in peer-reviewed journals. In addition to maintaining a funded research program, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses in women’s health and to contribute to the research and service mission of the college.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and secure funding for independent research in women’s health.
  • Teach and advise undergraduate, MPH, PhD, and DrPH students.
  • Provide continuing education and technical assistance to the women’s health research and practice community.
  • Provide service to the Department, College, University, and the field.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong record teaching, advising, and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Junior faculty mentoring skills
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD, DrPH, MD, or other terminal degrees.
  • Evidence of ability to secure research grants, and record of high quality research published in leading academic journals.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, evidenced by course evaluations, teaching awards, or other means.
