Position Summary

The University of Arizona Office of Digital Innovation and Stewardship (ODIS) seeks a six-month temporary assistant librarian to work .5 FTE on-site to collaborate with the Digital Scholarship librarian and iSpace directors and staff to maintain and grow our evolving digital scholarship and emerging technology programs in conjunction with the iSpace. The incumbent will work to establish protocols and develop programs within the iSpace in support of learning initiatives and research. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with faculty in and out of the library, and independently execute programs and initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate programming in support of makerspace and Digital Scholarship programs, including, but not limited to:
    • Workshops
    • Tours
    • Training sessions
  • Identify and prototype emerging technologies
  • Assist in the programmatic integration of the iSpace including demonstrating technology and scheduling programs and reservations of the space
  • Meet on a regular basis with supervising faculty librarians, stakeholders, and community members
  • The UA Libraries support the UA’s diversity and inclusiveness strategic initiatives designed to create an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students. The candidate is expected to support diversity and inclusiveness efforts in the department and college.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge/understanding of virtual reality development and applications
  • Some knowledge and/or experience working with 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, sewing machines and/or hand tools
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and inclusive environment, one that values and leverages the benefits of diverse perspectives.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or advanced degree in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital scholarship trends, workflows, and tools
  • Experience with program development
  • Experience with hands-on, interactive curriculum delivery methods
  • Experience with makerspaces and interacting with makerspace communities
  • Experience working with K-12 students, undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with 3D scanning and/or design
  • Experience with digital scholarship tools and methodology
  • Management experience or the ability to supervise others
  • Experience using data analysis tools
  • Experience with event planning for academic or community audiences
  • Experience with DIY computing including, but not limited to, Raspberry Pi or Arduinos
  • Experience leading team building exercises and training
