Position Summary

The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine has established research excellence in multiple disciplines. We pursue excellence through teaching in the medical curriculum in graduate and undergraduate courses, through the pursuit of leading edge biomedical research, and through service to the University, local community and to the nation.

We are searching for a motivated, independent individual to assist in Dr. Samantha Harris’ research projects aimed at investigating cardiac muscle mechanics; regulation of myocardial contraction; and molecular basis of inherited cardiomyopathies.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Isolation and purification of muscle contractile proteins, enzyme assays, bacterial protein expression, protein chromatography (affinity, ion exchange and size exclusion), RNA and DNA isolation, PCR, SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, western blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, DNA cloning, and DNA genotyping.
  • Manage multiple transgenic mouse lines including breeding, weaning, and genotyping.
  • Maintain databases and inventories such as mouse database and chemical inventories.
  • Order supplies through the university system and keeps records of orders placed and received.
  • Maintain compliance records and SOPS.
  • Consult with the PI and other researchers in the lab on the development of general approaches, protocols, and interpretation of results as needed.
  • General lab management duties including making solutions, ordering supplies, and supervising undergraduate students.
  • Additional duties maybe assigned as it relates to this position.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in maintaining transgenic mouse lines.
  • Experience in protein expression and purification.
Full Time/Part Time To be determined.
