Position Summary

The University of Arizona South, a branch campus of the University of Arizona, is seeking an Assistant Professor of Practice who will teach undergraduate courses in Cyber Operations. The teaching areas of Fundamentals of Cybersecurity, Offensive Cyber Operations, Active Cyber Defense, Incident Response, Cyber Threat Intelligence, and Cyber Forensics are especially desirable.
• The candidate must be willing to teach online
• The candidate must be willing to teach face-to-face classes in Sierra Vista and Tucson
• The candidate must be willing to teach in an NSA designated Cyber Operations program
• This position must conduct Offensive Cyber research to meet our NSA CAE-CO requirements

Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain a workload typical for NTE faculty at UA South defined as 60% related to teaching, 20% related to research, and 20% related to service.
• Teach undergraduate courses at multiple sites using a variety of formats including face-to-face, online, and interactive video/TV platforms.
• Teaching responsibilities include traditional course delivery, seminars, independent studies, creation and revision of course content for UA, as well as supporting the NSA CAE-CO academic requirements once the program is formally designated.
• Research responsibilities include research proposal development, review, and submission support; leading and/or assisting in Offensive Cyber Operations-related research; conducting presentations; supporting speaking engagements; and publishing (as appropriate).
• Contribute to the service responsibilities of UA South and the University of Arizona in part through participation on committees and student mentoring, including those from underrepresented backgrounds.
• Contribute to UA South and University of Arizona’s development through appropriate outreach to local communities (including governmental units, businesses, nonprofits organizations, and community residents).
• Assist in the development of innovative approaches to enhancing student engagements, increasing diversity, and expanding collaborations with community and business partners.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Cyber Operations, Cybersecurity, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
• Specific and demonstrable experienced in:
o Fundamental Security Principles and Vulnerabilities
o Networking Principles
o Offensive Cyber Operations (OCO)
- Network, Web, & Wireless Penetration Testing
- Social Engineering Tactics, Techniques, & Procedures
o Active Cyber Defense
- Defensible Network Architecture Design & Management
- Threat Hunting/Network Security Monitoring
- Incident Response & Forensics
- Threat & Environment Manipulation
o Cyber Threat Intelligence Production & Analysis
- Tactical, Operational, & Strategic
o Cyber Counter Threat Intelligence Tactics, Techniques, & Procedures
- Managed Attribution
- Sock Puppets
- Link and Pattern Analysis
o Cyber Law, Ethics, & Policy
• Willingness to teach in an Offensive/Defensive Cyber Operations program that supports both civilian and U.S. government learning objectives

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D./D.Sc. in Cyber Operations, Cybersecurity, Electrical & Computer Engineering, or Computer Science is preferred but not required.
• A software/system security related background is preferred
GPEN, GCIH, GWAPT, GXPN, OSCP, OSCE, OSWP, OSWE, GPPA, GMON, or CEH certifications are preferred but not required.
• C, Assembly, and Python programming experience is preferred but not required.
• Malware analysis, software reverse engineering, and exploit development experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience with cloud and virtualization technologies is preferred but not required.
• Demonstrated prior online teaching experience is preferred but not required.
• A U.S. Secret or Top Secret clearance is a preferred but not required.
