Position Summary

The Development Officer will raise significant levels of philanthropic support for the University of Arizona College of Medicine -Tucson. The Director of Development will partner closely with the University of Arizona (UA) Foundation, the UAHS Development Team and the University of Arizona College of Medicine –Tucson development team to create and exceed fundraising goals and objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Help to promote and maintain a culture of philanthropy in the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson, UA Health Sciences and the University of Arizona.
  • Maintain a portfolio of prospects that support fundraising goals and priorities.
  • Secure major gift private support for the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson.
  • Oversee and initiate prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation programs.
  • Work collaboratively with the UAHS Development staff and leadership to develop and enforce fund-raising priorities.
  • Design and implement specific plans of action for a portfolio of major gift prospects.
  • Participate in the strategic planning of fundraising strategies and program initiatives.
  • Work to maintain and cultivate relationships with donors and prospective donors.
  • Coordinate activities with the central staff at the University of Arizona Foundation as well as development officers in other colleges, centers and units.
  • Work within all established University of Arizona Foundation guidelines and the University of Arizona Gift policy to establish and maintain necessary internal processes and procedures.
  • Travel will be required and occasional overnight stays may be involved.
  • Will be required to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary to cultivate and solicit donor prospects.
  • There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with donors, volunteers and faculty members.
  • Ability to analyze and problem solve with minimal supervision.
  • Work effectively in a face paced environment.
  • Solution based character and ability to navigate a complex environment with consistent professionalism and positive outlook.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related office equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years’ experience as a front line fundraising professional; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Highly preferred, development experience in academic health care setting.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising capacity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fund raising principles and procedures.
  • Demonstrated success in planning, organizing and managing fund-raising campaigns.
  • Knowledge of Raisers Edge prospect management system.
