Position Summary

The AZ Student Unions is seeking a full-time Custodian to join our team at Bear Down Kitchen. The incumbent will work to clean and wash dishes and maintain and clean the kitchen in the Bear Down Kitchen area ensuring standards are met.

The Arizona Student Unions consist of both the Student Union Memorial Center (SUMC) and the Park Student Union, as well as Highland Market and a number of convenience stores and food stops around campus. In addition to campus dining services and catering, the Arizona Student Unions also run mall scheduling, concessions at athletic events, Fast Copy & Design, the Union Galleries, Games Room, the Gallagher Theatre, a Wells Fargo, and a Post Office Contract Unit.
The Student Union Memorial Center is one of the largest student unions in the United States. At a size of 405,000 square feet, SUMC contains everything students need – restaurants, retail spaces, lounges, study/meeting rooms, a computer lab, art gallery, and a movie theater. SUMC is often referred to as the “living room” of the University. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintains clean dishes, cups, pots, pans, silverware and utensils by running them through the dish machine and/or 3 compartment sink and inspecting them before storing them
  • Properly places all dishes, cups, pots, pans, silverware and utensils in their proper storage locations
  • Stocks dining room with needed dishes, cups and silverware
  • Sweeps and mops entire Production as well as basement area
  • Cleans walls, floors, restocks items, cleans vents and empties trash
  • Cleans ovens, fryers, warmers, steamers, broilers, large pots and walk-ins
  • Clean counters and work station, walls, shelves, drain screen and floor mats
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Prevents cross contamination of food products
  • Weigh, label and date all food items; store in designated areas
  • Works harmoniously with coworkers
  • Assists in other special projects

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently reaches, lifts, shakes, stirs, pours, carries and pushes
  • Ability to withstand large workload under high heat
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Skill in using cleaning products and equipment
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques and standards
  • Ability to write, read and understand English
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

One year of custodial experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating commercial food service equipment
  • Two years of custodial experience
