Position Summary

The University of Arizona Colleges of Law and Pharmacy have partnered to create Graduate Certificates in Health Law and are seeking a Director to develop, administer, and teach into the new online course offerings.

The position is a fraction .40 FTE fiscal appointment in health law, based in the James E. Rogers College of Law. The applicant will be expected to work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues across the University of Arizona and with related industry experts.

The candidate is responsible for recruiting faculty, managing the course approval process as well as supporting the design, development, and delivery for all courses in the Graduate Certificates in Health Law. The candidate will also teach one to two courses in each of the Certificates.

The candidate will administer the certificates by overseeing marketing, admissions process, and student advising. In addition, the candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to relevant research activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and oversee the Graduate Certificates in Health Law, in three phases:

Phase 1: Engage current and potential faculty from across the Colleges of Law and the Health Sciences, as well as industry experts, to teach into the new online course offerings. Collaborate with UA Law staff on the course approval process for the certificates and individual courses. Develop a marketing strategy (including promotional materials and website) and a streamline admissions process to attract future students.

Phase 2: Support the design and development process for online courses with recruited faculty and industry experts. Ensure that the courses complement each other in terms of content, offer variety in assessments, and options for student participation to help maintain student engagement. Execute marketing strategy and monitor admissions process.

Phase 3: Develop additional learning and networking opportunities for current and future students with a face-to-face option. Oversee continuous quality improvement efforts with coursework, marketing, admissions process, and student advising.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

At least five years of experience in overseeing and teaching online graduate
Abilities coursework in the health law field. A working understanding of the design, development, and delivery process for online coursework created by multidisciplinary teams in academia with input from industry experts. Demonstrated connections in the health care industry with local, state, national, and international stakeholders.

Ability to travel in-state, nationally, and internationally, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

A JD or equivalent qualification and a master’s degree in a health sciences related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated capacity for excellence in teaching in a health law related field at the postgraduate level.
Demonstrated potential or ability to supervise postgraduate students in their research activities and projects
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Capacity to interact positively with other staff in teaching, research and administration
Capacity to interact positively with students
Excellent organisational skills and demonstrated ability to manage time and work to deadlines
Demonstrated experience in working effectively in a multi-disciplinary academic environment
