The Senior Research Administrator is an integral member of the Research, Discovery & Innovation’s (RDI) Business Services team, providing pre-award research administration support to investigators within or affiliated with the RDI Centers and Institutes and Museums. As a centralized consortium of research administration professionals, RDI Business Services is a one-stop shop for interactions with sponsors and central campus administrative units including Sponsored Projects and Contracting Services, FSO, and the UA Foundation.

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director for Finance and Research Administration and as a member of the Business Services pre-award team, the Senior Research Administrator will work both independently with faculty and within a team of Research Administrators to develop funding proposals, including large strategic initiatives for submission to various federal and state agencies, foundations, industrial firms, and international organization or institutions. A successful candidate will perform duties and responsibilities listed below with a high degree of efficiency, expertise, and with exceptional customer service. The RDI Business Services team is committed to identifying and adhering to best practices in grants and contracts administration while upholding high standards of integrity and fiduciary responsibility.

RDI Business Services is a division within RDI that provides financial and human resource support to the many diverse research centers, institutes, museums and administrative support units that are under the RDI umbrella. Created in April 2016, the Center strives for excellence in customer support, creating trust and respect between the team members and the diverse customers we serve.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Works directly with faculty members, research staff, and program coordinators, college administrators, and other units on campus in the preparation of proposals.
• Assists in the development and submission of large, complex proposals such as program projects, interdisciplinary research centers, multidisciplinary university research initiatives, etc.
• Coordinates and develops budget and administrative sections of grant applications including budgets, budget justification, form pages, proposal routing in UAR, indirect cost waivers, and letters of support, consistent with agency and institutional guidelines.
• Partners with Principal Investigators and Sponsored Projects and Contracting Services (SPCS) to assist in the initiation, review, and negotiation of grants and contracts, cooperative, non-disclosure, educational, subaward, and other service agreements using knowledge of federal, state, and sponsor and university regulations.
• Assists in the creation and presentation of training materials for college faculty and staff.
• Assist in the training and professional development of Research Administrators
• Serves as a resource to ensure compliance with the restrictions and specifications of the sponsor and university in proposals and awards.
• Provides information and guidance to faculty and staff in the area of PI roles and responsibilities, grants management policies and procedures.
• Prepares financial reports and other ad-hoc reports and analysis of financial information from UA systems. Serves as lead Research Administrator for budget entry and account maintenance with Adaptive Planning-Grants instance.
• Additional duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in academic grants management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience with proposal submissions with agency mechanisms such as: FastLane;; and eRA Commons, NEH and NEA portal, or other comparable systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working as part of a cohesive team environment and develops alternative strategies for compliant achievement of desired outcomes.
• Demonstrated knowledge of University of Arizona system applications, UAccess Employee (PeopleSoft), UAaccess Research (Kuali), and Analytics (Oracle) or comparable institutional systems
• Self-motivated, takes initiative and strong ability to multi-task multiple projects while maintaining flexibility.
• Familiarity project management applications.
