The University of Arizona (UA), Campus Health Service’s (CHS) Health Promotion and Preventive Service’s (HPPS) department is seeking a Nutrition Services Coordinator to join a team of health care professionals committed to improving the health of college students through our integrated model of health care.

This position will supervise and mentor the professional development and activities of two half-time Registered Dietitian Nutritionists on staff, including their nutrition counseling, campus-wide events, outreach programs, and other nutrition-related services. The Coordinator is also the lead preceptor in support of educating/training future dietitians and other health professionals. In addition, the Coordinator provides nutrition counseling services, participates directly in managing programs and outreach activities, and leads a multidisciplinary team of health professionals who care for students with eating disorders.

The desired start date for this position is July 9 or July 16, 2018.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supervise other Registered Dietitian Nutritionists on the HPPS staff.
  • Provide competent nutrition counseling and care for students, including electronic health record charting, collaboration with other CHS and off campus health care providers, and with family members and other relevant parties.
  • Coordinate and participate in creating and/or updating patient forms and educational materials used in nutrition counseling appointments and on the CHS Nutrition website.
  • Coordinate and participate in writing, editing and reviewing nutrition-related articles for CHS, UA, and other publications as requested.
  • Coordinate outreach programming and activities among all RDNs.
  • Develop, manage, and advise peer-based nutrition/body image/disordered eating prevention-related programming.
  • Secure funds to ensure all nutrition programs have supplemental funding to support their mission-driven activities.
  • Co-chair the CHS Eating Disorder Assessment and Treatment (EAT) Team.
  • Serve on CHS and UA campus-wide committees and teams as appropriate or requested.
  • Serve as lead preceptor for Dietetic Interns during their wellness rotations at HPPS, including management of affiliate agreements, scheduling, and planning content.
  • Give presentations on nutrition related topics for UA classes and groups, as well as at conferences and meetings at local, state, regional, and national levels, as appropriate.
  • Develop and coordinate other outreach programs, including those that provide service learning opportunities to students.
  • Collaborate with other units on campus to improve student nutrition.
  • Mentor students who are pursuing health majors, primarily nutrition.
  • Develop marketing plans for CHS Nutrition Services overall and oversee the marketing of all nutrition services and programs, in collaboration with other RDN’s, the CHS Graphics designer, the Social Media director, and student interns/volunteers.
  • Create and implement/manage additional activities appropriate for the Nutrition Services area, as deemed necessary or as requested or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Supervisory skills and experience.
  • Desire to work with a college population on a wide variety of clinical nutrition issues including “well” nutrition, eating disorders and disordered eating (including body image issues and emotional eating), digestive health, hyperlipidemia, hormone function and management (including PCOS, DM), and performance/sports nutrition.
  • Advanced level practitioner in eating disorders, digestive health issues, and practical food-focused recommendations for general health and wellness in an outpatient setting.
  • Competence in cardiovascular, endocrine, and performance nutrition.
  • Competence in writing chart notes in an Electronic Health Record system using the Nutrition Care Process (ADIME) format and diagnosis statements following the Problems-Etiology-Signs/Symptoms (PES) format.
  • Competence and aptitude to embrace patients from different cultures, ethnicities, sexual preferences, and gender identities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and the ability to multitask.
  • Proficient culinary skills, with avid food and cooking interest and applied personal practice.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other common software programs, and with social media outlets such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team of health promotion, medical, and mental health professionals.
  • Understands and advocates the non-diet approach to weight management.
  • Ability to balance being a self-starter and independent worker with being a team player.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
  • Seven-plus years of clinical experience as an RDN, including significant experience in counseling patients with disordered eating, eating disorders, and body image issues.
  • Five years of experience in outpatient counseling.
  • Two years of experience supervising other RDNs.
  • Training and experience in the use of motivational interviewing.
  • Uses a patient-centered, non-diet approach to treatment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in nutrition or a related field.
  • Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian (CEDRD) from the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.
  • College health experience.
  • 5 years of experience treating patients with disordered eating, eating disorders, and body image issues.
  • Experience with website management and other online social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.
  • Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and relevant dietetic practice groups.
  • Member of the International Association of Eating Disorder professionals or the Academy of Eating Disorders.
