Position Summary

The University of Arizona, University Information Technology Services department, Finance and Administration unit is recruiting for an adaptable, energetic and knowledgeable individual to work closely with our Senior Director of Finance and Administration to perform detailed financial and budget analysis.

The selected individual will be responsible for interpreting and developing detailed cost and investment accounting information and providing recommendations regarding the efficient utilization of resources. The selected analyst will collaborate in solving complex technical problems in areas where no precedent exists. In addition, they will also assist and conduct budget analysis and monitor financial reports for designated accounts and/or capital projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

•Financial analysis: Performs specialized financial or cost analyses such as Cash flow and Return on Investment analysis; prepares related reports such as pro forma financial statements. Obtains, organizes, and analyzes financial data and prepares reports.
•Annual budgeting: assist in the annual departmental budgeting process. Collaborate with the financial team members and create reports and analysis for each UITS department to develop their operational expense budget to support the overall UITS mission and strategies.
• Budget maintenance: Perform the budget vs Actual analysis for each department and provide the insight to the department to keep their budgeted spending in line with the pre-agreed level.
• Project and investment analysis: perform cost-benefit analysis on multi-year investment projects. Assists in advising departments with respect to interpreting cost and spending data; recommends alternative solutions to cost accounting problems.
• Provides technical assistance in the design of analytical reporting systems using the UAccess Analytics.
• Assists in reviews of financial and internal controls to determine whether such controls are adequate to meet management objectives and ensure the safeguarding of assets; recommends and implements security and system control procedures.
• Performs specific tasks related to reviews of management practices and policies; recommends changes to enhance operating efficiencies.
• Produces specific plans using computer systems.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of cost and financial accounting principles, practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of principles and techniques used in conducting management studies, system analyses and financial analyses.
• Skill in preparing budgets and forecasting.
• Knowledge of internal control systems and procedures.
• Skill in the use of personal computers and related financial and statistical software products.
• Ability to effectively communicate.

Minimum Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field AND one year budget, accounting or related experience;

•Five years of budget, accounting or related experience;

•Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
