Position Summary

Facilities Management Grounds Services department is looking for an experienced Irrigation Specialist to join our team. Grounds Services is an award winning team that cares for the beautiful University of Arizona campus. Duties & Responsibilities

•Sets programs on computer and electronic valve clocks.
•Troubleshoots computerized and non-computerized irrigation controllers, solenoid valves, and heads of all types.
•Initiates corrective action to secure satisfactory standards and timely project completion.
•Repairs and inspects lines, valves, and sprinklers on irrigation systems; installs new drip and sprinkler systems; removes old systems and recovers reusable equipment.
Maps systems for campus-wide master plans.
•Operates tractors and trenchers to install system components.
•Performs other duties as required, including driving University vehicles to perform duties and responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

•General knowledge of grounds maintenance.
•Knowledge of computerized systems and time clocks, electrical wiring and wire functions, blue staking identification and trade-service support.
•Knowledge of underground lawn sprinkler system repair and installation.
•Skill in the repair and installation of underground lawn sprinkler systems.
•Skill in math sufficient to figure pipe flows, gallons, pipe sizing, friction losses, run times systems efficiency, spacing and head selections.
•Ability to read blue prints.
•Ability to effectively communicate.

Minimum Qualifications

•Experience with stand-alone irrigation systems.
•At least two years of licensed driving experience.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Two years of underground lawn sprinkler repair and installation experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education. Possession of a current Arizona drivers license upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of underground lawn sprinkler repair and installation experience; OR
Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Possession of a current Arizona driver’s license upon employment.
• Five years of underground lawn sprinkler system repair and installation experience; OR,
• An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, horticulture or related field and three years’ experience in the inspection, repair and installation of sprinkler system design; OR,
• Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
