Position Summary

The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research, and education.

Currently, the UACC is focused on developing the area of Cancer Immunotherapy and is actively recruiting an Associate Research Scientist with experience in performing immune evaluations from clinic-derived human material. The successful candidate will organize and manage a core Human Immune Monitoring Service (HIMS) that provides technical and scientific expertise for clinical trials across the UACC and the University of Arizona. The Associate Research Scientist will be responsible for the daily operations of the CORE including data acquisition, analysis, and distribution as well as maintaining billing logs per UA rules.

The candidate we seek will be an effective laboratory manager and have sound technical expertise in multi-color flow cytometry, ELISPOT, Metabolic assays, ELISA, RT-PCR, Immune cell functional assays. Organizing and dissemination of clinical material and data to various collaborators is expected. The position may also involve basic research performed with human immune cells to formulate new paradigms for proposals. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate sample collections from hospital and clinic sites.
  • Process human material for analysis.
  • Develop and optimize protocols for isolation and banking human leukocytes; immunophenotyping of immune cells using antibody staining and flow cytometry/IHC microscopy.
  • Isolate RNA and DNA for downstream genomic analysis by DD-PCR/RT-PCR; metabolic analysis using Seahorse based assays.
  • ELISPOT/ELISA analysis.
  • Design and consult with investigators to conduct investigations.
  • Fluency with Data acquisition and analysis software.
  • Prepare data for presentation.
  • Willingness to travel to learn and share information with collaborators.
  • Support of administrative functions such as billing and scheduling.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Strong project management skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Immunology or a closely related field.
  • Three years of related postdoctoral research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in Cancer Immunology.
  • Experience with billing and administrative core oversight.
