Position Summary

The University of Arizona Nutritional Sciences Evaluation Team seeks a motivated Research Computing Specialist, Senior to perform data analyses for the statewide, comprehensive evaluation of a federally-funded obesity prevention initiative. Qualified candidates will have a strong background in and passion for real-world data analysis, including data collection planning, organization, collaboration, cleaning, and analysis. The qualified candidate will be fluent in statistical tests pertinent to public health research, as well as their related platforms (STATA, SAS, R and/or SPSS). This role also includes management of a small data entry team.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with research evaluators to plan, implement and assess the project’s data collection, organization, and statistical analyses within the parameters of the project’s human subject protection protocols.
• Lead conceptualization and completion of quantitative data analyses, including the development of data intake and outflow procedures.
• Use a preferred statistical software to analyze small and large data sets, including but not limited to parametric and nonparametric analyses, psychometric testing, and developing best-fit statistical models.
• Manage the activities and supervision of two student workers who organize, collate, and enter data
• Prepare high quality written reports and presentations on data methodology and/or results for a variety of stakeholders.
• Create and implement procedures to maintain consistent and accurate data during transfer from paper to digital databases and/or live to archived files, as relevant.
• Create charts, tables, and graphs for presentation of the data.
• Write narrative summaries of data analysis results for scholarly publications and abstracts, including interpretation when appropriate.
• Disseminate findings to stakeholders as a member of the research team, as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned, including similar tasks on other projects as funding allows.

• Knowledge of best practices in statistical analysis and data management
• Expertise in preferred data analysis software and knowledge of other data analysis software (i.e. SAS, STATA, R and/or SPSS)
• Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of statistical testing and analysis
• Skill in prioritizing, planning and organizing work.
• Skill in analytical and creative problem solving.
• Skill in database design, development and optimization.
• Skill in communicating technical information to technical and non-technical users.
• Skill in functioning independently and as part of a team.

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline requiring the use of advanced levels of computational methods and resources, two (2) years of applied research, and two (2) years of related practical research computing experience; OR, Master’s degree in any discipline requiring the use of advanced levels of computational methods and resources, one (1) year of applied research, and one (1) year of related practical research computing experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
