Position Summary

Patricia Haynes, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Health Promotion Sciences, Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH), is a clinical psychologist, with a certification in behavioral sleep medicine. She is Principal Investigator of a large-scale grant from the National Institutes of Health to examine sleep and social rhythms as mechanisms for weight gain after job loss. The study is partnering with the Unemployment Insurance Administration in the Arizona Department of Economic Security to study obesity, sleep, and daily behaviors in people who have involuntarily lost their job.

The Research Aide will join a team of investigators and study staff to be trained on study assessments and administering study devices, interviews, assessment scales, and weight and body composition measures. The Research Aide will enter data into databases and participate in database management efforts. This position will participate in weekly lab meetings and communicate with investigators and study staff. The Research Aide will also assist with project coordination for a research protocol, and assist with regulatory paperwork and progress reports as necessary.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Administer study interview assessments and devices.
  • Conduct telephone screens with potential participants.
  • Communicate with project staff and investigators.
  • Assist with project coordination for a research protocol.
  • Assist with regulatory paperwork and progress reports as necessary.
  • Work one-on-one with potential study participants including scheduling of appointments, carrying out the informed consent process; subject payments; data management; and tracking subject progress throughout the study.
  • Assist with the maintenance of research protocol activities and training of students in adherence with research regulations and study protocol.
  • Perform research data entry of confidential subject information and participate in database management efforts.
  • Participate in research team meetings with study PI, Co-Is and other research staff.
  • Communicate with study staff and investigators regularly regarding research progress and to assess needs.

One year of laboratory/research, field research, or technical maintenance experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with human subjects and administering assessments.
  • Attention to detail as demonstrated by accurate data entry in previous work or academic environment.
  • Experience conducting consensus ratings of research data.
