The University of Arizona’s Undergraduate Biology Research Program (UBRP)
enables undergraduate students the opportunity to learn the conduct of life sciences research under the mentorship of a UA faculty member or other qualified researcher. Through the program, students develop an understanding of the scientific method, receive realistic, hands-on research experience, grow professionally, and join a community of scholars.

UBRP is seeking a Assistant Program Director to support the Program Director in program coordination, event coordination, science outreach activities, student placement and training, alumni tracking, development and fundraising, recruitment, proposal writing, website and social media management, and day-to-day operations of the program.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assist Program Director with coordination of UBRP, including student/mentor apprenticeships, working with UBRP Ambassadors group, organization and execution of annual conference, coordination of weekly summer professional development meetings for students, development efforts, presentations, outreach efforts (Pen Pals, “Thesis Thursday”), listserv management, and more.
Create and distribute quarterly UBRP Gazette e-newsletter and other communications as necessary.
Provide oversight and guidance to the UBRP Ambassadors (student leadership group)
Participate on UBRP Selection Committee (student selection) and UBRP External Advisory Group
Track alumni and provide support for alumni/community relations
Assist with fundraising and development efforts, including electronic and mail campaigns, and stewardship of donors
Assist with social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and website management
Contribute to writing grant proposals, including organizing and analyzing institutional/program data
Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of program coordination and/or student services at the post-secondary level
Knowledge in working with different groups of college students
Familiarity with undergraduate research experiences
Skills in interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and critical thinking Microsoft Office applications, e-mail; willingness and ability to learn additional computer skills as needed.
Ability to work well with others
Ability to manage time and tasks efficiently
Public speaking

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in field appropriate to assignment and two years of experience in student services/program coordination; OR Bachelor’s degree in field appropriate to assignment and four years of experience in in student services/program coordination; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and education.
  • Experience in program coordination, student services, and/or teaching
  • Experience in working with college students
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well with a diversity of individuals
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Familiarity with undergraduate research experiences
  • Some evening and weekend work required.
