Position Summary

The College of Medicine-Phoenix is seeking a dependable and motivated individual to support maintenance activities at the Phoenix Biomedical Campus. Due to the nature of our educational environment, this position may occasionally work evenings and weekends to reduce noise or to support other facilities management activities during non-traditional business hours.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs the more complex plumbing, electrical and carpentry maintenance and repairs such as replacing solenoid valves, switches, relays and thermostats, rewiring appliances, constructing partitions and small out buildings, installing plumbing pipe and related plumbing fixtures.
  • Performs general painting, plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs, such as unstopping clogged sinks, drains and garbage disposals, resetting circuit breakers, replacing cord caps, buffer switches and light switches; makes minor repairs to heating, refrigeration, air conditioning units and other electrical equipment; repairs damaged walls and doors; paints inside and outside building walls; replaces windows; refinishes and repairs furniture.
  • Uses power and hand tools to perform repair and maintenance work.
  • Operates forklifts, dollies and other basic loading and unloading equipment as required.
  • Drives trucks to transport materials such as furniture, supplies or equipment as required.
  • Services equipment used by oiling, greasing and adding gas as required.
  • Provides technical direction, coordinates the work schedules and reviews the performance of assigned personnel.
  • May install and maintain fixtures and facilities.
  • Communicates through computerized maintenance management system and Outlook calendar, work status, equipment evaluations, etc., and e-mail.

  • Knowledge of building and equipment maintenance/repair techniques.
  • Skill in applying building and equipment maintenance/repair techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
Minimum Qualifications

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift and carry from 45 to 80 pounds (a 5-gallon water jug to a bag of concrete).
  • Push and/or pull (appliances) using appliance dolly up to 200 pounds.
  • Move objects from one floor to another.
  • Bend/stoop, climb stairs, kneel, balance, reach above shoulder height, walk, and twist.
  • Has normal range of vision, hearing and speech.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Four years of general maintenance and repair experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education. Some positions in this classification may be required to obtain a current Arizona Type D driver’s license upon employment. Some positions in this classification may be required to obtain an Environmental Protection Agency Type 1 refrigeration license upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of building and equipment maintenance/repair techniques. Able to effectively utilize that knowledge to keep buildings and grounds attractive, safe and functional.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Verbal and written communications are a very important part of this job. Staff will be required to communicate job status, repair options, and estimated time of completion to end users.
  • Must be able to communicate requests, status, equipment evaluations, etc., through e-mail, work order systems or other written means.
  • Experience in determining the most cost-effective methods of repair.
