Position Summary

The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is dedicated to preventing and curing cancer. The UACC is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in Arizona and its primary responsibility is to conduct research that will lead to the reduction of cancer morbidity and mortality.

The successful candidate selected for this Coordinator position will provide human resources support to UACC. This position is expected to coordinate the administrative requirements related to hiring, promotion, termination and evaluation of personnel for the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC). This includes coordination with other University Departmental Human Resources Alliance members, the UA’s Health Sciences (UAHS) Human Resources Office and other (outside) organizations as needed in order to ensure that personnel and faculty hired for the UACC are of the highest quality in order to support the prevention, research and cure mission of the UACC.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Consult with UAHS HR regarding ABOR and University policies and procedures related to human resource activities such as employment, employment visas, affirmative action, FLSA, FML, retirement, employer and employee relations, salary administration, training, and benefits.
  • Assist to establish UACC HR procedures that comply with the ABOR and University policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate employment activities including recruitment, creation and update of job postings, applicant screening, interviewing, and hiring document processing according to communication with the hiring managers.
  • Process personnel transactions such as hiring, promotion, raise, reclassifications, and termination etc., with input from the responsible managers and approval from Associate Director for Administration.
  • Communicate regularly with Finance Office staff to ensure appropriate funding source identified when setting up new hire position or making related changes.
  • Coordinate faculty letters of offer that include whole or partial efforts supported by UACC.
  • Keep management regularly informed on the status of recruitments and open positions.
  • Maintain faculty recruitment log, including search status, campus visits, candidate disposition, etc.
  • Coordinate new hire onboarding activities: arrange meetings for incoming faculty with scientific leaderships; assign CatCard key-code for entrance to the UACC buildings to new employees; and update employees’ phone numbers in the UA’s Employee System.
  • Coordinate the UACC bi-weekly time reporting, initiate payment requests as necessary, and maintain a listserv for time approvers.
  • Refer UACC employees to UAHS HR in regard to employee relations issues, conflict resolution, employee advising, and management consulting.
  • Assist UACC supervisors and managers with new employee orientation and provide advice on UACC procedures regarding employee time records, paid and unpaid leave, and performance reviews.
  • Advise employees on benefits enrollment procedures and coordinate with UAHS HR.
  • Utilize UAccess Analytics to run personnel related reports and to provide internal compensation information used by management to make informed decisions for new hires, promotions, and career progressions.
  • Serve as UACC’s liaison to Office of International Faculty and Scholars for visa applications. Process visas and visiting scholar applications; apply knowledge of visa guidelines for documentation, justifications, and prevailing wage; monitor completion and input of information when visas are received; monitor visa expiration dates; and file for renewals/extensions to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain employee records: organize scanning, filing, and retention of personnel documents in accordance with federal and institutional guidelines.
  • Coordinate other human resource related activities such as employee appreciation events and retirement receptions.
  • Attend Central and UAHS HR Alliance meetings and disseminate pertinent information.
  • There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration or a related field and one year of directly related experience; or five years of professional human resources experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in UA’s human resource policies and procedures is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong inter-personal skills.
  • Experience in higher education and/or healthcare industry.
  • Experience or knowledge of the NCI-designated Cancer Centers.
