Position Summary

The Department of Medicine is seeking a temporary Research Technician who can perform standard biomedical laboratory techniques in a setting with low intensity supervision, requiring initiative and judgment based on a thorough knowledge and understanding of scientific theory.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform scientific data collection involving routine procedures characterized by moderate use of independent judgment.
  • Maintain detailed records of studies conducted, organize data, and prepare data for computer input and records computer output.
  • Compile data, make preliminary analyses and assist researchers in interpreting the data.
  • Operate laboratory and experimental equipment such as microscopes, flow hoods, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, analytical balances, photometers and spectrometers. Perform minor repairs and make arrangements for major repairs to be performed.
  • Maintain detailed records of radioactive isotopes used in the laboratory; package waste material and arrange for disposal according to established procedures.
  • Inventory and requisition supplies; may maintain bookkeeping records.
  • Train students and staff in the operation of equipment and/or in the performance of technical procedures.

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
