Position Summary

The University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law seeks a Director of Innovation for Access to Justice. The Director will build a program focused on developing innovative ways to improve access to justice using technology, design theory, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The candidate selected for the position should be an experienced self-starter with strong administrative and communication skills. This is a one year appointment with the possibility of renewal.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Develop and teach innovation for access to justice class(es) for JD, MLS, and/or undergraduate students;
- Enhance the College’s ability to be a national leader in developing innovative ways to improve access to justice, including using technology, design theory, and interdisciplinary collaboration;
- Explore ways in which technology – including the internet, application development, and artificial intelligence – can lower the cost and expand access to legal information and services;
- Develop networks across the University to participate in the program;
- Work with stakeholders in the community and the courts;
- Identify access to justice issues and explore innovative methods to expand access;
-Other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

- Knowledge of access to justice issues in Tucson, in Arizona, and in the federal courts;
- Knowledge of the Tucson legal community;
- Knowledge of how the federal courts are administered, and of issues faced by unrepresented litigants;
- Knowledge of community and law school based access to justice programs nationwide;
- Ability to work across disciplines and to recognize what other disciplines can bring to the program;
- Ability to manage complex projects from beginning to end.

Minimum Qualifications

- JD degree from an ABA accredited law school;
- Minimum of five years of legal experience;
- Excellent judgment and communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to prioritize and juggle competing deadlines, and manage complex projects;
- Demonstrated interest in and commitment to improving access to justice;
- Law school teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience creating and designing new or unique law school courses;
- Time spent as a judicial law clerk.
