Position Summary

The mission of the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME)at The University of Arizona is to provide rigorous and challenging education experiences at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, conduct research that is of national and international repute while, in so doing, contributing to the economic development of the state, and provide service to the University, the state, and the profession of engineering.

The Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking a Research Specialist, Senior to investigate the capability of surface plasma discharges for exciting coherent vortices in shear flows. The work will be primarily experimental, although some theoretical work is expected.

Duties & Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, perform model design, wind tunnel testing and data analysis using various modern diagnostics (PIV, CTA, static/high bandwidth pressure, etc).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Candidate must have knowledge of PIV, CTA and pressure measurements.
  • Software proficiency in MATLAB, LabVIEW and DaVis is required.

Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline AND three years of related research experience; OR, Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment and four years of related research experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with Graduate level coursework in turbulence, flow control and measurements in fluid dynamics.
