Position Summary

The University of Arizona’s College of Nursing is one of the country’s most respected research institutions and a leader in health-sciences education and scholarship. We are seeking a lab aide to support of the ‘entry to practice’ programs which include our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master’s Entry to Professional Nursing (MEPN) programs.

This position will collaborate with Program Coordinator and lead faculty/staff to support nursing student learning events and program operations. Program needs are sporadic throughout the year. This is an on-call, position with hourly pay and no more than 19 hours per week. The schedule and hours worked will vary based upon events scheduled. The shifts can be scheduled for up to 4-8 hours but will vary based on the needs of the program. Shifts are usually scheduled for early morning or afternoon and are year-round.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in coordinating or managing Phoenix-based resources needed for the entry-level programs, students, faculty and staff on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus.
  • Assist in the daily operation of skills and simulation labs including preparation, setup, delivery, and takedown of skills/simulation education sessions and restoring areas to pre-event conditions.
  • Provide timely and accurate assembly, preparation, organization of lab rooms, equipment, technology, supplies and other resources for scheduled healthcare skills, simulations, debriefings, and other events.
  • Track, organize, manage, and maintain optimal equipment and supply inventory levels. Order supplies as directed.
  • Performs clerical tasks such as filing, typing, labeling, and maintain calendar(s) as needed.
  • Check in shipments and restocks shelves.
  • Assist faculty and staff in day to day administrative support activities as needed, including flexible working hours to support events and assure successful outcomes.
  • Lab Maintenance and Improvement: keep supply area clean; clean equipment and ensure it is in good working order; evaluate and recommend operational changes to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Participate in meetings and conferences pertinent to area of responsibility.
  • Implement new policies, procedures, or practices impacted by decisions made at meetings and conferences.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as it relates to the position.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability and desire to learn about skills/simulations and new technology/equipment.
  • Knowledge of various office technologies, including Microsoft Office applications and ability to perform clerical tasks such as filing, typing, labeling, etc.
  • Knowledge of nursing/medical terminology and basic healthcare equipment and supplies.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills sufficient to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously to maintain efficient, timely, and smooth events.
  • Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with faculty and staff.
  • Effective verbal and written interpersonal communications skills sufficient to interact with students, individuals at all levels of the organization, and other interdepartmental personnel.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and coworkers.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, carry and lift objects up to 50 lbs.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

One year of laboratory/research, field research, or technical maintenance experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 6 months of recent experience providing healthcare proficiently in a clinical setting; OR, experience as a(n) Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Emergency Paramedic (CEP), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Medical Assistant (MA), Respiratory Therapist (RT), Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), OR similar healthcare provider professional; OR, at least 6 months of previous experience in a clinical simulation setting; AND / OR, related project / event management experience, OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and or/education.
  • Experience in skills / simulation lab.
  • Experience in academic institution.
  • Degree or certification in field appropriate to area of assignment with administrative, coordinator, and/or planning experience.
  • Experience multitasking, prioritizing, tracking multiple assignments, and following up on pending events and inventory needs to ensure continuity of smooth operations for the labs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
