Position Summary

The Asthma & Airway Disease Research Center (A2DRC) seeks an outstanding candidate for a Research Specialist position. The ideal candidate will provide advanced research support for multiple clinical research protocols conducted in the A2DRC.

The A2DRC is led by Fernando D. Martinez, MD. Since the 1970’s the A2DRC has conducted interdisciplinary research and translational medicine that integrates clinical medicine with epidemiology, immunology, genetics, epigenetics, pharmacology and cutting edge technology in order to understand and treat airway disease. The center’s mission is to improve our understanding of the risk factors, natural history, biology and treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible to achieve set goals in demographic and numeric recruitment of qualified subjects in a variety of age groups.
  • Responsible for the day to day activities involved with multiple clinical research protocols including pre-screening, consenting, data collection, data entry, and query resolution.
  • Perform clinical research study related procedures including the administration of questionnaires and conducting pulmonary function testing, sputum induction, sample collection and processing of participants enrolled in our clinical research studies.
  • Collaborate with other research staff to accurately document all screening, enrollment, and study activities.
  • Schedule appointments for potentially qualified subjects and notify all appropriate staff to ensure adequate resources are available for all visits.
  • Communicate study related issues to investigators, sponsors, coordinating centers, study coordinators, clinical team, managers, and other institutions in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in the creation, design, and modification of study source documents and recruitment materials.
  • Assist in the management of study and registry databases.
  • Collaborate with the study manager and assist with the start-up of new research protocols.
  • Travel for investigator meetings and protocol trainings as necessary.

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience in human subject’s research and clinical trials.
  • Self-motivated, willing and able to take initiative.
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Experience in customer service or patient care settings.
