Position Summary

The UACC is seeking to hire a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and dynamic coordinator to provide organizational support to the Administrative Unit as it pertains to the organization of research grants, and related scientific events. The position reports to the Research Development Administrator and combines complex medical research proposal development and scientific meeting coordination for the UACC, which help foster an environment that promotes transdisciplinary cancer research.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Fully coordinate the preparation of NIH and DOD proposals between research Faculty at UA and collaborating institutions. This activity requires a seamless interfacing with UAHS pre-award to ensure alignment with grant application submission requirements.
  • Assist team in reviewing funding opportunity announcements and summarize requirements and scientific focus on a regular basis.
  • Organize meetings of faculty and administrators related to collaborative research activities, planning activities, and assist or take lead in coordinating larger events.
  • Lead the management of internal scientific award mechanisms including the communication of internal funding opportunity announcements, the organization of peer-review meetings, communication of results and progress reports.
  • Organize high-level scientific and administrative meetings and take notes and minutes as necessary.
  • Provide general administrative support and coordination to the Cancer Center’s Administrative and Director’s offices including scheduling, managing telecommunications, and clerical support as needed.
  • Work within the Cancer Center Administrative Unit as requested depending on administrative priorities.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment.
  • Three years of experience in medical research proposal organization in an academic setting.
  • Three years of experience in scientific event coordination in an academic setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and strong computing skills.
  • Ability to support multiple administrators and multitask is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive understanding of the NIH Grants Policy Statement.
  • Prior experience with the organization of complex multi-investigator proposals including P01 and SPORE proposals.
  • Ability to create figures and graphs for scientific presentations.
  • Knowledge of Smartsheet or other project management tools.
