Position Summary

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the School of Plant Sciences at University of Arizona to work on dsRNA therapy for control of psyllid and citrus greening or HLB in citrus. The incumbent will be involved in an USDA-NIFA funded project focusing on developing effective delivery system that increases uptake and systemic translocation of small dsRNA molecules to the citrus phloem, that when ingested by psyllids, induces RNA-interference (RNAi). Research will be in the Extension Plant Pathology laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Alex Hu and in collaboration with Dr. Judith Brown in Virology laboratory.

A Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Plant Sciences, or closely related field. Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology techniques is preferred. Experience working with solvent, surfactants and formulation technology will also be preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and implementation of experiments in the laboratory and greenhouse.
  • Complete data management, analyses and interpretation in a timely and effective manner;
  • Communicate and present results professionally to general and scientific audiences, at stakeholder meetings, scientific conferences, and field days;
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed, scientific journals, and review scientific publications;
  • Assist with additional grant writing, if needed, to support and extend this project;
  • Collaborate professionally with regional, national, and international scientists;
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of the team associated with this project;
  • Assist summer interns, research aides, graduate students, visiting scholars and post-doctoral researchers with their research projects;
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative research atmosphere are required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and delegate to others.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Plant Sciences, or closely related field.
  • Experience providing supervision/lead work for others in a research setting, prepares reports, extension publications and manuscripts
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience working with solvent, surfactants and formulation technology.
