Position Summary

The Research Specialist, Principal position is open for a person who has extensive research experience in lung biology and experience in cell biology, molecular biology, and cell physiology. In addition to his/her own experimental procedures, the Research Specialist, Principal will work with other lab members to study the pathogenic mechanisms of pulmonary hypertension and acute lung injury.

The primary purpose of this appointment is to engage in advanced research training for the Research Specialist, Principal. Under the Principal Investigator’s mentorship, the Research Specialist, Principal will be engaging in research activities that include: a) daily experimental work in the lab, b) presenting his/her experimental results both within departmental meetings and in conferences, and writing manuscripts, fellowship and grant applications based on his/her research results; and c) working as a member of the principal investigator’s lab team.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform mitochondrial biology techniques, including mitochondrial isolation, mito-tracker and microscopy to image fission/fusion and co-localization of proteins of interest.
  • Perform molecular biological techniques (e.g., Western blot, gene transfection, mutagenesis, plasmid amplification).
  • Work independently to advance a number of projects; review project progress and develop plans to complete experiments.
  • Train new lab members, supervise subordinates.
  • Attend weekly lab meetings, present and discuss data.
  • There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three years of related research experience; OR, Master’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND four years related research experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (PhD, MD or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of experience in lung biology.
  • Basic cellular and molecular biology techniques.
  • Imaging experience.
  • Interest/experience in mitochondrial dynamics.
