Position Summary

The Assistant Director of MIS Career Management is an integral member of the MIS Career Management Team at the Eller College of Management. The position requires a strong leader, who is passionate about developing students, building effective relationships, and providing innovative solutions. This position is responsible for preparing MIS students for their internship and full-time career searches. The Assistant Director will create and deliver career management programming designed to enhance students’ professional development. Programming includes one-on-one career coaching, group workshops, panel discussions, and hands-on training. This position is expected to remain current on recruiting and hiring practices, employer needs, and trends affecting students in MIS and related degrees.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Enhance the overall student experience by building strong relationships and developing students for career search success.
  • Coach domestic and international students on needed career management and job search skills; review student resumes, cover letters, and other employment documents and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of career management programming on topics such as resume and cover letter development, personal branding, networking, etc.
  • Understand cultural influences on the job search process and integrate into student development curriculum and career counseling.
  • Identify, manage, and communicate career resources available to students.
  • Maintain accurate records on individual student meetings and group workshop attendance.
  • Solicit and analyze student feedback and implement innovations.
  • Conduct outreach to guest speakers who can assist students in their job searches and participate in student development activities.
  • Lead mock interview program. Engage with alumni and business leaders to schedule mock interviews for students.
  • Remain current on recruiting and hiring practices, employer needs, and trends affecting graduate degrees, and incorporate into student coaching sessions and development activities.
  • Gather and track student employment (full-time and intern) and salary data. This includes database management, data analysis and external reporting.
  • Prepare annual report and compile data according to departmental and college requirements.
  • Partner with career services personnel in MIS and Eller to develop and lead company visits, Career Treks, and other student networking opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Director to identify and cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national organizations with the potential of hiring Eller MIS students.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field. In lieu of degree, 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working with students.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and initiative.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Availability to travel and work evening and weekend hours.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated initiative to make improvements and deliver results.
  • Proven commitment to student/customer success.
  • Results-oriented with superior attention to details.
  • Experience serving diverse constituencies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (MBA, Human Resources, Counseling, etc.)
  • Experience with Job Posting systems (Symplicity) and CRM systems.
  • Experience in career development for technically-oriented students.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
