The University of Arizona South (UA South), a branch campus of the University of Arizona (UA), is seeking an Assistant Professor of Practice who will teach undergraduate courses in Computer Science and Informatics. The teaching areas of web and mobile app development, networking and security, data analytics, and human computer interaction are especially desirable. The position is located in Yuma, Arizona and will require travel to other UA South and UA main campus locations.

The University of Arizona South is an Hispanic Serving Institution with its administrative home located approximately 80 miles south of Tucson, and multiple additional locations dispersed throughout the southern Arizona region that borders much of northern Mexico. The region is one of rich multicultural tradition and technological sophistication.

The preferred candidate will hold the Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely related field at the time of appointment, but the candidates who have a combination of an appropriate Master’s degree and relevant practical experience will also be considered.

Duties & Responsibilities

• 
Maintain a workload typical for NTE faculty at UA South defined as 80% related to teaching and 20% related to service.

• Teach undergraduate courses at multiple sites using a variety of formats, including on-line and interactive video/TV platforms.

• Teach face-to-face courses in San Luis, Arizona.
• Contribute to the service responsibilities of UA South and the University of Arizona, in part through participation on committees and student mentoring, including those from underrepresented backgrounds.
• Contribute to UA South and the University of Arizona’s development through appropriate outreach to local communities (including governmental units, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community residents).

• Assist to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement, increasing diversity, and expanding collaborations with community and business partners.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

We seek candidates who can demonstrate:
• a commitment to UA South’s community-focused mission of providing affordable, accessible, quality degree programs that are regionally relevant;

• outstanding teaching, particularly in Computer Science and Informatics courses;
• the ability to develop and teach courses in a variety of formats (e.g., online, face-to-face, hybrid, interactive television);
• the capacity to work as part of a team to develop innovative approaches to enhance student engagement, increase diversity, and expand collaborations with community partners;
• the capacity to collaborate effectively with colleagues across disciplinary lines.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or closely related field.
• Experience in distance learning.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph. D. in Computer Science or closely related field
• Demonstrated professional commitment to online teaching
• Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: web and mobile app development, networking and security, data analytics, and human computer interaction
