Position Summary

Under general direction, create engaging, interactive online and instructor led trainings. The Instructional Designer collaborates with development subject matter experts and training team members to define scope, construct deliverables, and timelines. The Instructional Designer must also create storyboards, design specifications, and style guides to ensure designs are communicated effectively and adhered to throughout the development process.

This position serves as a member of the University Development Program (UDP) Human Resources & Talent Management team.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Design and create highly effective interactive content for multiple online programs using appropriate authoring systems and software applications as needed. Content includes digital assets such as animations, narrated presentations, layouts, templates, and banners. Ensure digital assets created adhere to quality standards for e-learning and support learning outcomes.
• Create and edit scripts with a focus on creative solutions to ensure content and assets developed are organized and conveys appropriate meaning. Write e-learning content that is grammatically correct and free of typographical errors.
• Assist with audio/video recording and production used in narrated presentations and animations.
• Ensure assets developed are documented and adhere to Instructional Design best practices.
• Create style guides, storyboards, layouts, templates, and digital assets to ensure meaningful and consistent course design and serve as job aids for other resources on the project.
• Provide input and peer review other’s projects.
• Collaborate effectively and function as a team player while also working independently to meet project needs and objectives. Collaborates with key stakeholders to define course development guidelines, garner buy-in, and ensure content validity.
• Keep abreast of instructional design standards and innovations in the industry
• Be part of the testing process for new product releases, version upgrades, and enhancements.
• Research, design, and deliver learning modules in a variety of media, working with staff, consultants, and vendors.
• Assist manager in setting short and long-term goals and priorities for the training department.
• Seek opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and schedule multiple tasks with minimal supervision and adjust to changing priorities and assignments.
• Demonstrated skill and knowledge of technology tools available to University of Arizona Foundation, including Raiser’s Edge, Blackbaud CRM, Microsoft Office suite (including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access required), Camtasia (or similar) and Learning Management System.
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, developments, and techniques of providing software training and reporting, querying, and data exporting services in an academic and/or administrative environment.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Ability to build online instruction as well as classroom-based instruction required.
• Excellent presentation skills required.
• Strong verbal and writing skills, high attention to detail and follow-up, and excellent organizational skills required.
• Strong commitment to customer service required.
• Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact required.
• Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team setting required.
• An exceptional work ethic and track record of personal initiative required.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills characterized by the ability to listen, to speak, and to write well required.

• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher and a minimum of three years of professional work experience designing digital instructional materials and providing group training; OR,
• Master’s degree with a minimum of two year of professional work experience designing digital instructional materials and providing group training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Learning Design, Adult Education or similar.
• One year experience producing courses with one of the following: Camtasia Studio, Articulate, or other industry standard rapid development tool.
• One years of instructional design experience required, preferably in a course development role.
• At least 2 years of experience developing training, with a strong focus on software or technical training preferred.
• Five years’ experience in online/web-based or media-rich content design, development and delivery.
• Experience with learning theories, and effective instructional and delivery strategies, including:
- Identify and write actionable course objectives.
- Apply appropriate instructional strategies.
- Creating assessment and testing tools across all four levels (environment, knowledge gain, knowledge retention, ROI).
- Evaluate learning activities for effectiveness.
