The Instructional Specialist, Senior position will be located in various zones in the Phoenix, Arizona area and will deliver services for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) with Maricopa County community entities such as school districts, community centers, adult education programs, housing sites, and other sites that target limited-income participants. All responsibilities will enforce the Maricopa County SNAP-Ed’s goal of improving the health and well-being of individuals and families through nutrition education. This position will be responsible for developing, teaching, presenting, and evaluating nutrition and physical activity programs at SNAP-Ed sites in assigned zones in Maricopa County. This position also includes providing targeted sites with materials and deliverables.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Translate and interpret in English and/or Spanish as needed and as situations warrant.
• Instruct in SNAP-Ed subject matter as required including low-impact physical activity demonstrations; teach and participate in physical activity demonstrations, games, and lessons.
• Recruit partners and sites to participate in the SNAP-Ed program.
• Provide leadership and guidance to partner sites in the implementation of the comprehensive SNAP-Ed program.
• Develop methods and procedures for implementation at partner sites within established guidelines.
• Develop, present and help coordinate education activities, projects, etc. at partner sites.
• Prepare materials for direct nutrition education activities.
• Provide nutrition and physical activity education to youth, adult and senior sites.
• Prepare age/grade specific lessons.
• Conduct or assist with food demonstrations.
• Participate in food/fun fitness field days, healthy holidays, health fairs, and other promotions and events.
• Provide and collect participant evaluation forms (i.e. surveys).
• Assemble and deliver direct nutrition education materials and incentive items.
• Maintain program records.
• Recruit target audiences to attend nutrition classes.
• Transport, deliver, set up, move, and lift program displays and materials for classes, health fairs and events.
• May be required to work some evenings and weekends.
• Assist with other SNAP-Ed activities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

• Bilingual: English/Spanish – fluent in written and verbal. Must be willing to speak, translate and interpret in either language as need and as situations warrant.
• Must have reliable transportation and posses a valid driver’s license with the ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
• Must be able to transport designated materials and handouts to sites.
• Demonstrated knowledge of nutrition and physical activity teaching principles and procedures; must be able and willing to teach and participate in physical activity demonstrations, games, and lessons.
• Word processing, excel spreadsheets, and computer skills; ability to assist or manage the SNAP-Ed data through the SNAP-Ed database.
• Knowledge of the ethical handling of research data.
• Ability to work independently.
• Must have good interpersonal skills.
• Skilled in teaching limited income youth, adults and seniors in a variety of settings.
• Able to effectively communicate verbally, and through email, voicemail, social media and in writing.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND one year of instructional or subject work experience; OR, five years of progressively responsible instructional or subject work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with the Maricopa County area.
