Position Summary

The Arizona Student Unions, is seeking a Dining Services Attendant, Senior to join our team. This position is responsible for the supervision and execution of catered functions both in-house and off-site; to include overseeing staffing, service, food, presentation, equipment management and food safety practices.

The Arizona Student Unions consist of both the Student Union Memorial Center (SUMC) and the Park Student Union, as well as Highland Market and a number of convenience stores and food stops around campus. In addition to campus dining services and catering, the Arizona Student Unions also run mall scheduling, concessions at athletic events, Fast Copy & Design, the Union Galleries, Games Room, the Gallagher Theatre, and a Post Office Contract Unit.

The Student Union Memorial Center is one of the largest student unions in the United States. The SUMC contains everything students need – restaurants, retail spaces, a bank, lounges, study/meeting rooms, a computer lab, art gallery, and a movie theater. SUMC is often referred to as the “living room” of the University. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manages incoming orders and sets up catering orders according to the standards of the department and expectations of the client in a manner that ensures consistency in all catered functions
  • Ensures proper presentation and service of food and beverages
  • Transports catered items to various locations using Student Unions carts and vehicles
  • Works to ensure overall guest satisfaction
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with department managers, team members, and guests
  • Supervises and assigns tasks to staff ensuring adequate training is provided
  • Ensures safe handling of food and equipment
  • Handles customer complaints, actively resolves internal problems wherever possible, and follows through with necessary actions and effective communications

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds
  • Ability to frequently reach, bend, lift, push, pull and/or carry while performing normal job functions
  • Ability to maintain a well-paced mobility for an 8 hour shift.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of food service/catering operations
  • Ability to remember, recite, and promote the variety of menu items
  • Ability to multiple tasks
  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette
  • Skills in oral and written communication
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a valid driver’s license at time of employment and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Working knowledge of food service/catering operations
  • Basic working knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, and guest relations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in food service operation; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience in food service operation
  • Experience working in a high-volume food service environment
  • Previous catering experience
