Position Summary

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The University of Arizona is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Research Specialist, Senior. The selected candidate will assist Professor David Poirier with analyzing metallographic samples and training of students in using metallurgical instruments.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform research and analysis of microstructures in steel casting.
  • Perform micro-hardness measurements of samples.
  • Train students in use of metallurgical instruments.
  • Assist students with writing and reporting of research results.
  • Assist with preparation of metallographic samples.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three years of related research experience; OR, Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment and four years of related research experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering.
  • Three year of experience working with metallurgical microscopes.
