Within the Arizona Medical Education Research Initiative, the Data Analyst coordinates research activities and assessment tasks as well as collects and analyzes data. This person should be proficient using spreadsheets and statistical software packages to create meaningful graphs, tables, and comprehensive reports. The analyst should have strong verbal and written communication skills, and work well in teams. The analyst should understand research methodologies particularly related to assessment and evaluation. This person should work well independently to manage data and provide analysis for data-driven decision-making. This position works with a team including graduate and undergraduate students and will be responsible for delegation and oversight of tasks for the team. In addition, the analyst will be responsible for developing and managing a large coordinated longitudinal dataset from combining data from multiple data sources.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform administrative/project management functions.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct library and computer searches for research.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of statistical techniques and computer data systems including establishing coding formats for future scientific research data collection.
  • Assist in judging the validity of data obtained from experimental procedures and recommend additional tests and/or modifications.
  • Generate computerized statistical data for analytical purposes using a variety of scientific software packages; interpret data for research projects.
  • Create and manage databases for studies including setting up database and associated data entry programs, retrieving data from database for purposes of analyses or data review, transforming data for research/assessment needs.
  • Design and modify questionnaires or other data collection or sampling instruments or data summarization methods, procedures or reporting formats.
  • Assist in the development of written operating procedures and perform quality control checks to ensure procedures are followed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques within educational/medical education research and statistics.
  • Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection, management, and analysis and ability to apply methods appropriately.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis (at least several types of regression) using syntax/coding.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative statistical software packages and relational databases (particularly, Excel, SPSS, STATA, R, SQL, Atlas TI).
  • Skilled in analyzing and evaluating quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Skilled in report writing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, a Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, six years of research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
  • Coursework including research methods and statistics (including multiple and logistic regression).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in institutional research, research, or analyses is highly beneficial.
  • Advanced statistical methods (e.g. hierarchical linear modeling, structural equation modeling, factor analysis, cluster analysis, survival analysis, propensity score matching, etc.)
  • Advanced data management skills (e.g. data extraction, transformation, data integrity, database design and planning (e.g. table structuring, one-to-many relationships), etc.)
  • Self-motivated, willing and able take initiative.
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • High level of integrity, ethics and professionalism.
  • Strong communication and computer skills.
