Position Summary

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jason Karnes in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Dr. Karnes’ laboratory conducts research in precision medicine, focused on cardio- and immuno- pharmacogenomics. We employ clinical and translational research approaches to determine genetic variation associated with efficacy and safety of widely prescribed medications. Work will include assessment of genomic signals in drug response through genome-wide association studies (GWAS). Researchers with both PhD and MD/PharmD training are particularly well-suited for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Review literature, conceptualize hypotheses, design and conduct experiments, analyze results, and publish in peer-reviewed literature.
  • Prepare manuscripts and grants.
  • Communicate analysis results with PI and collaborators.
  • Present results at conferences and national/international meetings.
  • The exercise of independent discretion and judgement in carrying out the research.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Scientific writing capabilities and oral communications skills.
  • Experience with genomic technologies and analysis of genomic data.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or professional doctorate with prior research training/experience in genomics, pharmaceutics or a related discipline.
  • A team player, as well as an independent researcher.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with bioinformatic and statistical analysis.
  • Experience with analysis of genome-wide association study (GWAS) data.
  • Experience with clinical trials.
