Position Summary

The experimental high energy physics group at the University of Arizona is inviting applications for a Research Specialist, Senior to work primarily on the ATLAS experiment. The successful candidate for this position will analyze data from ATLAS experiment in order to search for new particles beyond the Standard Model. The candidate will also participate in data-taking and data analysis related to the Micromegas front-end electronics we are developing.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Analyze data from the ATLAS experiment including estimation of data-driven backgrounds and systematic errors.
  • Collect and analyze data related to Micromegas front-end electronics, especially measurements related to noise.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of particle physics, data analysis techniques, C++ and Python.
  • Knowledge of digital electronics.
  • Ability to make relevant measurements related front-end electronics.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three years of related research experience; OR, Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment and four years of related research experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

Several years of graduate study in physics, good working knowledge of the ATLAS data analysis software, familiarity with Micromegas detectors and electronics.
