Position Summary

The University of Arizona’s Life & Work Connections (LWC), a unit of Human Resources, is a progressive program serving a diverse population of approximately 12,000 employees at multi-campus sites. LWC is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time employee assistance counselor position in Tucson.

The successful candidate will provide a range of employee assistance services to address behavioral/emotional health and wellness issues, individual/family, substance abuse, work group dynamics and life management concerns.

The successful candidate will be part of a unique multidisciplinary team that offers integrated employee assistance, wellness and work/life services through a whole-person, life-cycle approach.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide core technology employee assistance services including confidential consultation, assessment, short-term problem resolution assistance, and referrals that cover a wide range of employee concerns.
  • Document all services provided in an electronic EHR database per licensure and ethical standards. Contribute to employee assistance quality assurance activities.
  • Assess and address the needs of employees, departments and work units from a systemic perspective, in order to promote a healthy and productive work environment.
  • Assist in appropriate application of legally mandated responsibilities for maintaining an alcohol and drug free workplace.
  • Design and conduct educational and professional development workshops for employees.
  • Collaborate with other LWC team members – in program planning, presentations, and employee care.
  • Provide, as part of a trained critical incident team, CISM/Psychological First Aid for members of the campus community.
  • Contribute to reports, articles and departmental projects.
  • Build program awareness and promote LWC services.
  • Position requires some travel to other University sites in Arizona.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Arizona behavioral health FULL license in Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, or Social Work. Associate level licensees will not be considered. Individuals from other states awaiting reciprocity will not be considered.
  • Minimum of four (4) years fully licensed clinical practice experience.
  • Must be highly effective at intradepartmental, interdepartmental, and community resource collaboration and communication on diverse range of workplace and personal topics;
  • Must have advanced knowledge and skill in clinical work and be trained in CISM/Psychological First Aid.
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years practice experience.
  • Internal Employee Assistance experience, especially work in a university environment;
  • Bilingual and able to counsel individuals in Spanish a plus.
