Position Summary

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) at The University of Arizona seeks a Career-Track Lecturer to teach courses and assist with curriculum coordinationr in the upcoming Food Studies BA degree. The position will also be the Assistant Director of the Center for Regional Food Studies and be expected to perform research and outreach responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach 3-4 classes per year.
  • Work with SBS Academic Affairs team to develop courses, staff courses, and manage curriculum.
  • Seek out student engagement opportunities in the degree, coordinate BA Food Studies internships, and meet with degree advisor as needed.
  • In conjunction with SBS Academic Affairs team recruit and advise students.
  • Outreach activities for the Center for Regional Food Studies.
  • Research and grant development for the Center for Regional Food Studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Exemplary writing and public speaking skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in related field, significant professional experience and demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching
  • at least 3 years of experience in conducting applied research.
  • Commitment to student learning and student success.
  • Desire to collaborate across teams and work on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Exemplary communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and first-hand experience of regional food system and social, economic, political, and environmental issues within Tucson, southern Arizona, Sonora/U.S. – Mexico borderlands.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possess Ph.D. from a social science discipline.
  • Experience with grant writing and management.
  • Record of publishing on food (not exclusively academic).
  • Experience with student advising and internships.
