Position Summary

The Web Site Designer/Developer, Senior helps Marketing & Brand Management (MBM) tell its great stories online in support of the University of Arizona marketing and business goals. They are a leader in efficiency and an integral part of the MBM team who helps develop websites and creates tools that enable the University’s strategic units to build more websites, better. The Web Site Designer / Developer, Senior is dedicated and uses attention-to-detail, paired with a desire to learn and grow, to advance the UA brand and enhance user experience.

Marketing and Brand Management supports the UA’s diversity and inclusiveness strategic initiatives designed to create an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students. The candidate is expected to support diversity and inclusiveness efforts in the department and college.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Works with content managers and designers to configure sites, populate them with content, and ensure they meet an increasingly high standard
• Provides HTML and CSS support for new and old websites
• Produces documentation for fellow site builders and editors
• Improves styling and functionality of websites with efficient, scalable solutions that consider long-term implications
• Tests and reports bugs
• Helps keep outages to a minimum
• Produces documentation for fellow developers
• Collaborates with web teams across campus
• Ready to jump in and contribute to the team when it’s “all hands on deck” — these instances are infrequent but may not be exclusively web-development related

• Is always learning new tools, new techniques, new technologies and languages
• Shares new ways to save time and reduce risk
• Has familiarity with Git, or is open to learning this and other new tools
• Enthusiastically takes ownership of tasks, learns procedures, finds efficiencies and increases the velocity of our projects
• Is open to competing points of view and willing to go outside of comfort zones to learn new approaches
• Keeps a cool head during heavy deadline-driven projects
• Manages competing priorities with aplomb

Minimum Qualifications

CSS, HTML, and CMS configuration
• Commitment to clean and efficient code
• Enthusiasm and desire to learn about web technologies
• Communication and listening skills that underscore an ability to collaborate with interdepartmental teams
• Pride in craftsmanship. When the situation calls for it, go a step or two beyond what’s asked
• Ability to collaborate with team members with various degrees of technical ability

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Five years of progressively responsible web site design and/or development experience; OR, Associate’s degree in a related field AND four years of web site design and/or development experience; OR, Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND two years of web site design and/or development experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building responsive websites — cross-platform, cross-browser, cross-device
• Familiarity with Git workflow
• Drupal 7 administration, configuration and maintenance
• Debugging and troubleshooting techniques
• Experience with Bootstrap framework
• Knowledge of SEO best practices
• Knowledge and passion for web standards — including usability and accessibility standards
