The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research, and education.

The Research Specialist position will provide dedicated research support for the Knudsen lab at the University of Arizona Cancer Center/North campus. This position works closely with clinical faculty and their disease team.

This employee will have regular contact with investigators, regulatory staff, clinical trials sponsors (e.g. private industry and national cooperative groups), and administrative staff. It is expected that this person will have or develop a knowledge base of the disease areas assigned and current management principles and will be able to serve in a consulting role to new faculty and staff regarding policies and procedures for clinical research.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled procedures at a high-level, commensurate with level of experience.
  • Analyze data and report research progress reports; participate in the preparation and writing of papers for publication.
  • Perform administrative functions such as assisting in projecting budgets and procuring laboratory space, supplies and equipment.
  • Create and manage databases for studies, which includes setting up database and associated data entry programs and retrieving data from database for purposes of analyses or data review.
  • Manage operational maintenance of laboratory and experimental equipment.
  • Perform research across multiple models systems for cancer research including cell culture, animal studies, and the interrogation of clinical specimens.
  • Actively participate in unit team meetings.
  • There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques related to cancer research.
  • Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analysis and skill in their application.
  • Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.
  • Skill in report writing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
