Position Summary

The University Analytics and Institutional Research (UAIR) team, within The University of Arizona, is accepting applications for the position of Business Intelligence Developer Assistant. The UAIR team works to inform strategic decision-making and business processes at the UA community.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide UAIR Clients & University Executives & Management with custom Research, Financial, Student and HR related data models, including operational, trending, and forecasting designs.
  • Interview various administration members and managers to define analytical data needs/requirements, and initiate comprehensive assessment plans for the development of reports/dashboards/subject areas.
  • Create new tools to facilitate departmental overview at the College and VP levels.
  • Develop tools and dashboards for UA Executives to allow for continuous monitoring of the institution’s strategic and mandatory goals.
  • Improve usability of Student, Financial, HR, and Research dashboards for campus users through customization and data integration.
  • Assist clients with data questions, analytical questions.
  • Work with other members of the UAIR team to fix any reported/encountered errors accurately and efficiently.
  • Develop and communicate requirements, business concepts, logical models and data outcomes to users and project team members.
  • Research and deliver new ways of leveraging existing extensive data sets and provide data-driven insights.
  • Implement enterprise data analysis quality assurance standards and testing processes.
  • Plan, design and implement strategies for the development and maintenance of enterprise data dashboards, reports, and user documentation.
  • Maintain, update, and revise enterprise analytical reporting solutions to meet changing business needs.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicates with diverse business customers and users at various levels in the organization and serve as champion of analytics.
  • Actively engaged in requirements gathering, using tenets of dimensional modeling, business intelligence best practices, ETL concepts, Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI) architecture and repository management, SQL, relational database theory, and query performance considerations.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors’ degree in related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 3 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Strong service orientation toward users.
  • Knowledge of and skill in using SQL and OLAP systems.
  • Effective communication skills; be able to communicate in technical and business terms.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as function as a team member.
  • Solid analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Data warehouse (conception, design, implementation, and support).
  • Strong work ethic and self-driven.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills; Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and meet negotiated timelines.
  • Knowledge of one (or more) enterprise administrative systems and/or related business principles (Peoplesoft Human Capital Management & Campus Solutions, Kuali Financials & Coeus)
  • Experience with Business Intelligence (conception, design, implementation, and support).
  • Demonstrated experience delivering data models of complex data sets that are accurate and responsive.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with Financial, Student, and HR data in a higher education environment.
  • Experience working with Research-related financial data at a Research 1 institution.
  • Knowledge of university processes and multiple administrative system (Peoplesoft Human Capital Management & Campus Solutions, Kuali Financials & Coeus)
  • Knowledge of and skill in using relational and dimensional databases and models.
  • Knowledge of and skill in using Tableau and/or Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition
