Position Summary

The Associate Director of Development raises significant levels of philanthropic support for the University of Arizona Health Sciences. The Associate Director of Development will partner closely with the University of Arizona (UA) Foundation and the UAHS Development Team to create and exceed fundraising goals and objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Director of Strategic Development Communications to implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance the University of Arizona’s Health Science fundraising priorities.
  • Partner with UAHS leaders to support development and campaign priorities with special emphasis on advancing major and principal gift relationships.
  • Collaborate with development team to create solicitation, cultivation and stewardship messages across an integrated platform.
  • Create content, text and design documents as appropriate for essential communication to donors and prospects; including visions, proposals and other targeted messaging.
  • Facilitate visioning engagement with leadership and faculty through direct consultation, active participation in relevant committees and other means.
  • Develop and facilitate internal communications.
  • Ensure all materials produced are of a consistent and uniform professional quality in accordance with university branding.
  • Work with design, print and video vendors (internal and external) as needed to provide production support for fundraising activities and collaterals.
  • Provide backup to Director of Strategic Development Communications for key functions, including media and board support.
  • Draft content for annual social media plan.
  • There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, marketing, media relations, or public relations.
  • Eight (8) years’ experience in marketing communications or related communication fields and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skills in development-oriented writing , with a combined strength in attention to detail and writing speed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to diverse audiences.
  • Skill in organizing work and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience working in development, research, or healthcare institutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience in all aspects of marketing communications and production.
  • Proficiency in major social media applications.
  • Ability to partner with high level leaders and produce effective communications within tight deadlines.
