Position Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology is part of the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) which has been designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC).

The Department of Radiation Oncology’s Biology Division at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson, Arizona, is actively recruiting for a scientist to support the department’s radiobiology research efforts. This position will establish and develop a basic science research program within the department in collaboration with interested Radiation Oncology physicians in our efforts to translate basic science discoveries into applications in the Radiation Oncology clinic.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare proposals seeking substantial external research funding.
  • Provide mentorship of residents and medical students.
  • Develop local, national and international collaborations.
  • Teach and participate in the radiobiology course for the radiation oncology residents.
  • Participate in service activities of the department, AHSC, and the University of Arizona as directed by the department head.
  • Prepare and submit scientific manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Mentor graduate students and residents.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • M.D. or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Radio Biology, or Cancer Biology.
  • Transferable Grant Funding.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven ability to communicate science in refereed journals.
  • Currently funded research program.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
  • Experience researching methods for improving the efficacy of ionizing radiation and the induction of DNA damage by ionizing radiation and investigating how this damage is repaired.
  • Expertise working with diverse communities.
