Position Information

Title Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (TE/T)
Department Cellular & Molecular Medicine (0710)
Medical Sub-Speciality
Location University of Arizona Health Sciences
Position Summary

The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine ( in the College of Medicine – Tucson, and the BIO5 Institute (, at the University of Arizona (UA), are accepting applications for tenure-track or tenured faculty positions with established research programs in the development of novel methods of functionally assessing induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells to accurately model and study human disease, as well as investigation of the biological mechanisms of iPS cells. The search is open at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The rank of the appointment will be commensurate with experience. A publication record demonstrating high-impact research, and a funding record appropriate to the level of appointment, are required.

The CMM Department comprises an exceptional group of 33 primary basic science faculty members with research interests in five major focus areas including cardiovascular biology and diseases, complex disease biology and genetics, cancer cell biology, cell polarity and intracellular trafficking, and genome function. Teaching duties for the department reside in both the Medical School curriculum and the Graduate School curriculum. This recruitment is a partnership between CMM and the BIO5 Institute. Established in 2001, the BIO5 Institute aims to harness the collaborative power of five core disciplines–Agriculture, Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Science–to find bold solutions to complex, biology-based challenges affecting humanity. The successful candidate is anticipated to have a secondary appointment as a Research Fellow in the BIO5 Institute, and for the duration of that appointment, the faculty member will dedicate 75% of their University effort to their research program.

CMM, BIO5, and UA provide strong support for basic, translational and clinical science interactions, precision medicine, omics, bioinformatics, computational biology, bioimaging, statistical genetics and genomics – as a few examples. Our outstanding core facilities include state of the art genomic sequencing, mass spectroscopy, electron and optical microscopy, small animal to large animal/human imaging instruments, multiple vivariums including a barrier facility, and multiple research services. The co-location of the health sciences and main campuses facilitates interaction and translation.

The department is seeking an individual who is able to work with diverse students, trainees and colleagues, and who has experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.

Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance plans; life insurance and disability programs; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; state and optional retirement plans; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more!

Accepting a new position is a big life step. We want potential candidates and their families to be able to make informed decisions. Candidates who are considering relocation to the Tucson or Phoenix area, and have been offered an on-site interview, are encouraged to use the free services offered by Above & Beyond Relocation Services (ABRS). Ask your department contact to be introduced to ABRS prior to your visit.
