Position Summary

We are seeking an outstanding candidate for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Epidemiology and COPD. Applicants must hold a medical degree (M.D.) with a specialty in Epidemiology, Internal Medicine, or Pulmonary Medicine. Additional training in multidisciplinary approaches to studying molecular or genetic risk profiles and their relationships to poor health outcomes is required. Applicants addressing the biological correlates of health disparities are particularly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants with peer-reviewed publications in nationally recognized journals and K or R funding from national agencies.

This position will report to the Director of the Asthma & Airway Disease Research Center (A2DRC), and will hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine, reporting to the appropriate academic Chair.

The Asthma & Airway Disease Research Center (A2DRC) is led by Fernando D. Martinez, MD. Since the 1970’s the A2DRC has conducted interdisciplinary research and translational medicine that integrates clinical medicine with epidemiology, immunology, genetics, epigenetics, pharmacology and cutting edge technology in order to understand and treat airway disease. The center’s mission is to improve our understanding of the risk factors, natural history, biology and treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Actively pursue independent extramural funding.
  • Maintain a vibrant research program with potential for translational applications.
  • Participate in center-wide research efforts.
  • Contribute to graduate (Ph.D.) and/or medical (M.D.) education.
  • Provide clinical service in the Department of Medicine (In the Divisions of Pulmonary or Infectious Disease).
  • Publish in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • M.D. with certification in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and/or Critical Care Medicine.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in biology, epidemiology, medicine or related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical research.
  • Peer reviewed publications in nationally recognized journals.
  • Demonstrated contribution in writing a successfully funded grant.
  • Independent K or R funding from national agencies
