Position Summary

The Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Arizona Department of Medicine is recruiting early or mid-stage career infectious disease scientists with a PhD or DVM who have either established or show promise of establishing a research career. Candidates in the fields of virology, immunology, mycology, population health, and HIV infection are especially encouraged to apply. A generous startup package, protected research time, and renovated laboratory space will be provided.

The division currently has flourishing programs in the areas of HIV care, including a large Ryan White-funded program; Antimicrobial Stewardship; and extramurally funded research in HIV immunopathogenesis and aging. Close scientific collaborative relationships exist with the Department of Immunobiology, the Pulmonary Division, the Valley Fever Center of Excellence, and the Cancer Center. Important resources available to researchers at the University of Arizona School of Medicine include animal care facilities as well as a veterinary diagnostic laboratory; biostatistical, bioinformatics and computing core services; flow cytometry, microscopy, genomics and proteomics cores; a clinical translational science center that supports clinical trials; the Sarver Heart Center; the Arizona Respiratory Center; the Center on Aging; and a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

  • Mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Participation in research seminars of the Department and College.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • A PhD or DVM degree in related field.
  • Completion of a minimum of three years of a post-doctoral fellowship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A strong publication record and demonstrated potential for obtaining independent research funding.
  • Established expertise working with diverse communities.
