Position Summary

The Department of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix (COM-P) invites applicants for a highly accomplished individual as Director of the Program in Immune Mechanisms at Epithelial Surfaces. We seek an established investigator to build a comprehensive, multi-investigator research program in areas including, but not limited to, autoimmunity, host-microbe interactions, inflammation, or cancer immunology at epithelial sites. Applicants will have an outstanding track record in scholarship and funding, as well as demonstrated success in program development and mentoring. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and lead the research activities of the program, capitalizing on existing strengths in immunology and collaborating with faculty within the Department and across local institutions.

We encourage applications from investigators at the associate or full professor level with a Ph.D. and/or M.D. (or equivalent) and experience in research, service and teaching commensurate with appointment at the rank of full Professor.

The Department of Basic Medical Sciences is a multidisciplinary unit that is growing its research portfolio by developing programs in both Immune Mechanisms at Epithelial Surfaces and Cardiovascular Disease. Laboratories are located in start-of-the-art research facilities with core services such as flow cytometry and multi-photon and confocal microscopy. In addition, the University of Arizona Cancer Center, Norton Thoracic Institute, and Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix, Phoenix Children’s Hospital; Center for Applied NanoBioscience and Medicine, Translational Genomics Research Institute, and Arizona State University offer further opportunities for collaborative research.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of the Program in Immune Mechanisms at Epithelial Surfaces.
  • Develop and maintain a federally funded and internationally competitive research program in an area related to the research objectives of the program.
  • Lead efforts to receive programmatic funding.
  • Publish research findings in leading journals.
  • Develop research collaborations within the department and with partner institutions.
  • Contribute to the teaching and service missions of the College of Medicine – Phoenix.
  • Engage in external academic and professional activities.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. and/or M.D.
  • Active extramurally funded research program in an area related to the research objectives of the program.
  • Experience in research, service and teaching commensurate with appointment at the rank of full Professor.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Track record of programmatic development.
  • Demonstrated experience directing a team of principal investigators supported by programmatic funding.
  • Current or past service on grant review panels and editorial boards.
