Position Summary

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology is looking for a lab manager with a background in Biology: The researcher will oversee the lab’s day-to-day operations, including ordering supplies, keeping inventory, maintaining laboratory stock, following safety regulations, assisting and training other lab members and contributing to the development of a new experimental approaches that involve reconstructing ancient molecular components and observing their biological functions in modern microbial cells.

The Kacar Lab (kacarlab.org) at the University of Arizona works at the interface of molecular and experimental evolution, genome engineering, biochemistry, molecular biology and astrobiology. The following position is available immediately and will remain open until the position is filled.

Duties & Responsibilities

In general, we are looking for team members who have good personal skills, a willingness to work across disciplinary boundaries, and who are enthusiastic about developing novel experimental systems and techniques. Our work is funded through the John Templeton Foundation, the National Science Foundation, NASA Astrobiology Institute and NASA Exobiology and Evolutionary Biology Programs. Team members need to have a true interest in fundamental questions that relate to evolution (at the molecular or systems levels), the origins of life and astrobiology. We collaborate with geologists, microbiologists, geneticists and astronomers, so please expect to work in a transdisciplinary research environment. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

B.Sc. or higher in Biology, Genetics, Microbiology or related discipline. Experience with bacterial microbiology laboratory techniques (culturing, sterile handling, etc.) is required. Previous experience with molecular biology, and fundamental DNA engineering techniques. Familiarity with protein biochemistry. Good organizational skills, ability to work as a part of a collaborative scientific group, leadership and excellent communication skills are required.
