Position Summary

Please Note: There was a minor update to the Duties & Responsibilities, and the Minimum Qualifications have been slightly modified. The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) seeks a tenure-track UA faculty researcher to lead the Center’s cancer-relevant Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) strategy in the state of Arizona with approximately 10% FTE administrative appointment. The incumbent will be given the Senior Leader title of Associate Director (AD) and participate in the Center’s Scientific Leadership and Executive Councils.

As the key contributor to the implementation of the Center’s strategic efforts to reach vulnerable populations in our catchment area, the AD COE will be devoted to Center efforts in community outreach and engagement, as well as cancer health disparities and recruitment of underserved populations to clinical trials. The AD, COE will be leading the development of long-term relationships with underserved population and minorities in the state.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Propose and implement actions that will focus on the improvement of cancer outcomes throughout the state including, but not limited to, the implementation of health policy recommendations.
  • Implement outcome-based methodology for our underserved minorities, utilizing coordinators of outreach and engagement of local populations, educational coordinators, and patient navigators, who may facilitate the inclusion of underserved populations into the Center’s clinical research.
  • Author, present, and communicate plans, activities, and outcomes as needed, including those required by the competing CCSG application and associated NCI site visit, the CCSG annual progress report, and annual EAB report and site visit.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD, or equivalent, and 4 years or more of tenure-track appointment in the health sciences field.
  • Corresponding-author of peer-reviewed publications in the cancer community engagement and outreach field.
  • Track record of obtaining peer-reviewed funding.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrable impact of hypothesis-driven interventions.
  • Citations of work in national and state-level agencies and panels including state legislatures.
  • Experience in community-based participatory research.
  • National collaborations in the area of community outreach and engagement.
  • Active, federal agency-funded peer-reviewed research at the level of Principal Investigator (PI), Multiple PI, or Project Director of a program project grant award.
